Founded in 2015 by filmmakers Alexis Neophytides and Alex Murawski, The Big Chair is an Emmy Award–winning production company specializing in character-driven, visually rich storytelling.

We’ve produced documentary and scripted films, series, and campaigns for partners ranging from grassroots nonprofits to global brands. Our work has screened at major festivals—including the Berlinale, BFI London, and TIFF—broadcast across the U.S. on PBS/POV and in nineteen countries worldwide, and streamed on Apple TV and Amazon Prime.

Our projects have been supported by Sundance, the Ford Foundation, Field of Vision, IDA, ITVS, CPB, Perspective Fund, Fork Films, Working Films, Screen Australia, NYC Media, NYSCA, and the NYC Women’s Fund. We’ve received recognition from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and praise from The New York Times, which named our feature Fire Through Dry Grass a Critic’s Pick.

Today, The Big Chair continues to collaborate with communities, nonprofits, and fellow filmmakers to create work that resonates deeply and sparks conversation.
